Rev. Dr. Alex
Kasirye Musoke was born as one of ten children in Uganda where he went
to school. He graduated from Makerere University in Kampala before
pursuing higher education in England and Wales where he obtained degrees
in Development Economics, International Education, and Theology.
While studying in England, he met Elizabeth, a law student at that time,
and they got married at St. John's College, Nottingham. He worked
as a local Pastor in Toton and Derby, United Kingdom, before returning
to Uganda in 1982. Because of the political instability in Uganda,
they could not stay and so they moved to Nairobi, Kenya where Alex
was ordained on Advent, 1982. He worked as Pastor in suburbia
Nairobi and as lecturer at Nairobi School. They had three of their
biological children in Nairobi where Elizabeth worked as a lawyer.
From Nairobi, they moved to Canada where Alex pursued his studies and
obtained another Masters degree and Ph.D. from the University of
Toronto. Alex was a full-time Pastor but also lectured in theology
and sociology at respective colleges in Toronto. In 2001, his wife
Elizabeth died of cancer leaving Alex with seven children and in the
process of adopting four more. Because of his busy schedule as a
Pastor, running a church and raising their children became very
difficult for him. It was at that time that his mother-in-law who
lived and worked in Boston advised him to move to Boston that she may
help him to raise the children. In 2002 Alex and three of their
younger children moved to Dorchester, Massachusetts where he ministered
at Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church. In 2007, he moved
to West Springfield as the Pastor at Mittineague and First United
Methodist Churches. In 2008, he became the pastor at St. Paul's
Methodist Church in Ludlow in addition to Mittineague and First United
Methodist Churches. Currently he is married to Lydia, a nurse and
four of his children are working, three in university and four are still
in Uganda attending high school.
